Summer Game Fest: What It Is And How You Can Attend

It's that time of year where all of the conventions, or, as we call them at Socially Gaming, "the cons" and gamer festivals kick into high gear! Unfortunately, Covid-19 has taken over and the world has shut down. Almost everything has been cancelled including E3 which was set to take place in Los Angeles. That's big. E3 is the largest consumer focused video game show in North America. So, not only are fans disappointed, but tons of money is being lost as well. Companies, publishers look forward to and plan on sharing new content this time of year. It's like gamer Christmas. We look forward to all of the new game footage and demos typically released during this time. This was set to be a big year with X Box Series X and PS5 coming out later this year as well. Oh the exclusives that shall be missed...or will they? There is something that started today that is looking to fill this void. Here comes Summer Game Fest.

Summer Game Fest comes to us from Geoff Keighley founder of The Game Awards. This online festival will run from May 12th starting at 12pm EST until August 24th where the festival will end with Gamescom: Opening Night Live.

There will be different scheduled events throughout the summer. Schedules for those events will be posted in the coming weeks. Exclusive trailers, in game challenges, release dates are just some of the content they have headed our way. The showcase will include Sony and Microsoft with the latter showcasing their Xbox Series X game play footage for the first time on Thursday, May 14th.

Publishers that will be included in this ongoing summer event include: Activision, Bandai Namco, Bethesda, Blizzard, Bungle, CD Projekt Red, Square Enix, Digital Extreme, Electronic Arts, Riot Games, Private Division, Steam and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment with more to come. On Wednesday May 13th there will be a live stream event along with an interview with Geoff Keighley which will air after the live stream event. Other events we know for sure that are happening are linked events for the summer edition of the Steam Game Festival and EA Play. Also, and this is one we here at Socially Gaming are extra excited for, there will be a Cyberpunk 2077 showcase which is scheduled for June.

Tuesday's exclusive was the reveal of Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1 and 2 being remastered for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Super excited for That as well. Check back in the coming weeks on more info as it comes on this new event. That is all of the info for you social gamer's. As always leave any comments concerns or if you just want to wish us a nice day go ahead and do so in the comments section below.
