The Top MMO Games Of 2020 And Beyond

The MMORPG landscape has changed a lot in recent years. Gamers are used to repetitive grinding in games like World Of Warcraft and new mechanics are being introduced into games like Black Desert Online. Online games such as League Of Legends and SMITE are also paving way for a new type of online experience with other gamers.

We're gonna talk about the future of the MMORPG genre, and the titans that still reign supreme over all things MMORPG. Gaming blogs seem to be all over Amazon's upcoming MMORPG New World while World Of Warcraft still has the most users and continuous content.

Let's get right into it.

NEW WORLD

Release Date: May 2020 Developer: Amazon Payment Model: No Subscription Needed

Amazon's no-subscription-needed New World has been through a lot of changes over the years since it's announcement, going back and forth between a well developed MMO to looking more like a giant multiplayer survival game such as RUST. One thing that never changed however was the emphasis on massive PVP territory battles with up to 50 players on each side battling to control different areas of the map. One thing I am excited about is the combat system in New World, which will require skill and timing to carefully dodge attacks and strike your opponents instead of relying on hotkey combos or static skill combos. The game will be released in May of 2020, but a closed beta may be seen in April.

BLACK DESERT ONLINE

Release Date: March 3, 2016 Developer: Pearl Abyss Payment Model: Buy-to-play

Most of us know Korean MMO's as the typical repetitive MMO where you grind, grind, and grind some more, and while Black Desert Online doesn't stray far from that, it has a lot o offer to help you get over that hump. There are dozens of career paths to take up. You can be a merchant, fisherman or purveyor of good wine, its all up to you in this MMORPG. Black Desert Online is on every Gaming Blogs best of list. There are also weekly guild wars and a unique node system for crafting.

FINAL FANTASY 14

Release Date: August 27, 2013 Developer: Square Enix Payment Model: Subscription with paid expansions

Final Fantasy 14 has been through quite a bit of ups and downs since it's release in 2010.

After being tore down and rebuilt from the ground up by a new team, the game has finally hit its mark. This MMORPG has one of the best class systems we have seen. It also touches home for a lot of Final Fantasy Fans, most of who are eagerly awaiting Final Fantasy 7 Remake in April. The latest Final Fantasy 14 expansion, "Shadowbringers" is the best one yet, and just released last summer.

THE ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE

Release Date: April 4, 2014 Developer: Zenimax Online Studios Payment Model: Buy-to-play with DLC

Although the Elder Scrolls Online launch was not as great as we all had hoped, the game has recovered after it's first shaky year. Elder Scrolls Online is now one of the best MMO's out today. Largely in part to it's awesome expansions that have let us deeper into the world of the elder scrolls series. We can now venture to the home of the Khajit, and city of the Dark Elves. There is so much you can do in the game world, and that's what sets this game apart. You can build your own house, craft amazing weapons or fight some of the most awesome monsters we've seen in an MMO.

WORLD OF WARCRAFT

Release Date: November 23, 2004 Developer: Blizzard Payment Model: Subscription with paid expansions

World Of Warcraft has had the single most impact on the MMORPG genre. It has lasted the test of time, and still to this day provides fresh, quality content on a regular basis. For that reason, we think it deserves a spot on the list. No other MMORPG has come close to the amount of users and money generated as World Of Warcraft. Just recently World Of Warcraft launched it's classic version for players to go back and start over. The launch was a massive success and further proved why World Of Warcraft is the best MMORPG still to this day.

That concludes our list of the most anticipated and the best MMO's that are playable today.

Let us know your thoughts and any recommendations you may have for us!

Until next time!
